Configuration

Kaisoft is configured through the app, not config files. API keys and connection credentials you enter are encrypted and stored in the application’s internal database — they’re never written to plain text.

Kai needs at least one AI provider. To add one:

  1. Open Settings in the app.
  2. Go to the AI Providers section.
  3. Choose a provider and paste your API key.
ProviderWhere to get a key
OpenAI (GPT-4o)platform.openai.com
Anthropic (Claude)console.anthropic.com
Groqconsole.groq.com — free tier available
Ollama (self-hosted)No key needed — point Kaisoft at your Ollama URL, e.g. http://host.docker.internal:11434

You can add several providers and switch between them in Settings. Keys are stored encrypted — only you can replace or delete them, and they can’t be read back out.

Everything connects through the UI:

  • SQL databases — Data Sources page → Add Connection (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, SQLite, DuckDB)
  • MQTT brokers — MQTT page → Add Broker
  • OPC-UA servers — OPC-UA page → Add Server

Use Test Connection before saving. Credentials are stored encrypted.

User accounts are managed in Settings:

  • First sign-in uses the seeded admin account — you’ll be required to set a new password immediately.
  • Additional users are created by an admin. Each user only sees the data sources they’re permitted to access.

The only settings passed to the container itself:

SettingDefaultHow
Web port8080 → 7080-p 8080:7080 in docker run
Data persistencekaisoft-data volume-v kaisoft-data:/app/data
Auto-restart—restart: unless-stopped (Compose)

The /app/data volume holds the internal databases (settings, credentials, dashboards, chat history). Back it up before upgrading.
